This conti ict includes the construction of four bridges, viz., two o\er the Mn.ng.ipu rtvci, one (i7C> feet long, and the other 204 feet long. The third bridge is 131 foet long o\er Mnngarnpa rivrr. Another contract of about simil.ir length (10 c.r 11 milea) from Te Kuiti onward will bo let almost immediately, and by this lime nr\t ye.ir the Distuct Kiigmcei the whole extent of the line between Te Aw.iinntu and I'urotoiau Tunnel (.">9 niil(>^ from Te Awamutti) will bo tnuKu contract. Mr OBrien is pushing on with the tunnel, which will bo 110(5 yards in length. Beyond it the survpyois aie busily at woik, and another body is making surveys for a road or cart track that is to lead from the tunnel to thetubut.iry of the W.ing.mui rivei. Tenders are already being called for the construction of the hi^t section of five miles, and the Public Woiks Department is trying to arrange with the Go\ eminent to do the second section of twehe miles.
