Ai/rnOBGH this product (so called because it consists of very fine shaving* derived from wood) has for the la^.t four years beea in extensive use in America, its use in Europe ha* been limited. It u but recp.it l7 that it has bten decided to employ it, n«t only far picking, but also for stuffing mattresses, and ai a substitute for rags in oleaning engines, an 1 for filtration, etc. As waste wood of all kinds nyiy be employed for manufacturing the article, and as tho machines that produce it are oopible of making, according to the fineness that it is desired to obtain, as much as a t^ouaand pounds a day, it may concotly be asserted that wood wool, as compared with hay and straw, is the cheaper article for packing pur poses. On another hand, hay and straw oro often damp, and it is rarely the case that tho former does not contain the st ft stems of plants. As a material for stuffing bedding, hcunofs, and upholstery, wood wool oornon next to hair as regards elasticity ; and it is even preferable to all other materials when it in derived fron resinous wood, in that it absorbs no moisture and keeps away inupcts. Aftnr numerous trials, which have demonstrated the value of the article, Beveral hospitals have adopted it as a stuffing for bedding, cushion*, furniture, etc
