WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The council held its ordinal y meeting at the rhanibeis, Ohauno, on Monday. Piehuut: Ch. (icini.itiu (cli.u'im.ui, pro tern), (Jnco, Uidlfi, Simtli, smd Tuawlale. Resignation. — Cr. Hutchmson sent in his resignation as a, councillor The council having no altematnu the resignation was accepted. COHUErtI-ONDKNCK.— TIie To Aw.UJlutu Town Board made application for publican*' license fees received by the- council for the town hotels. Payment was oidered lust, cost of administering the act. — Mr (4. Bailey made application for tho leinoval of water from hia frontage. The applicant was referred to the Pukekura Road Konid. —A similar application wa<» iecei\ed fioin Mr Jan. Keoly and other settlers. The engineer was instructed to examine the place for the natural watercourse, and order the removal of any obstruction, if any exist?.— Mr J. Kingdou applied for leave to erect a fence from his shop to the culvert fence close by. The application wiw granted. Wamjku's Gully Bridge.— Regret wan exgreswed at the misapprehension as to the state of this bridge, the public notice only Applying to heavy traffic— The engineer reported it was shored up safely for ordinary traffic— The clerk was directed to withdraw the Advertisement. Engineer's Kepobt was as follows :— To the Chairman Woipa County Council. —Sir, I liave the honour to make the following report on the coOnty roads for the month. The general dry weather duiing tho past month has been greatly in favour of the roads ; these throughout may be naid to be in n faiily paswible condition. This state of matters would however be entirely altered by n week's rain, and us this is a contingency that may bo expected,

certain provisions ought to be mide as they aiise. Tumble may be expected to occur in the vicinity of tln> l.nlw.iy st itions whoie ti attic is concentiated. Tliese roids e\on in diy wiMtliei aie in many cases showing evident signs of tln-n m.ihility to cuiry tlio louls Li ought on them. The repairs to the road betiu'en Stone's comei- and Ngnru.v w.ihia •mthoiiscd ut the last meeting of the council have been undci taken, tho woist ])l.icos on tho length being selected for lep.ur. This lo.id .it one tune has been gravelled, but lias- bocomo hollow in the centre, and to put it m good order it requnes re siuf icing and gi swelling throughout. On the road from Alexandra to Te Awamutu lailwiy station, a number of bad holes have biokenout. These ought to be rppaned before the wet u eather sets in. They aie mostly shoitbut deep, and eveiy .successive wheel passing thiough them cuts dtcper, and they will .shoitlj become dangeious. £'5 would go along way towaids filling them, and I would leeomivend this expenditure. The same facts apply to the road from the railway station to ih^ township of Te Awamutu, but there is still an unexpended balance out of £20 voted foi this load, and I have arianged to have tho necessaiy lepans done. Tho lo.id fiom To Awamntu to Kilnkihi is standing fanly well, but this state of things la entirely due to the fine weathci. Fascines have been laid ovei a great many of the worst patts and the side drains clewed out, but this work is quite inulequate to meet the mcica&ing tiafHo daily going ovoi tl.is road to and from the station, and if the road is to be kept open foi traffic, it will be absolutely necessary to keep several men const uitly at vu.rk on it cutting and layine fascines, attending to the drams, &c, during tho winter and spring month*. I learn fiom the press that dissatisfaction is being felt about the condition of the road fiom Ohaupo to Cambridge. A considerable sum of money has been expended on giavellmg and repairs to this road d'liing the piste.v.t >e.u. From W.iiker'h Uully to Cambridge the gravel has to a great extent been worn out, and in consequence the load has gut hollow in the centre, and while tho worst _ ] o tions have boon repaired from tune to time, and aie htill being repaired, to put the iotd in proper order from 2\ to 3 milrs lequue resurfacing and gravelling. Independent of tins, as it stands at present it is one of the best roads in the country. Messrs Murphy, Covvley .and Meiedttli have finished their contracts, and I recommend the payment of the balances duo to them. Mr Henderson, tho contractor for the bridge over the Mangapiko at To Awamutu, has not got on so fast with his contract as I could have wished. This is principally owing to his not being able to get tho piles forward. However, the whole of the timber and ironwork for tho .superstructure is on the ground, one of the trusses has been put together and the other is well m hand, so that when the piles do arrive there will be very little delay in completing the job. In accordance with insti notions, tenders for the Mangahoi diversion at Clifford's Hill were opened and the work let. Separate tendeis have been accepted. That for the diversion of the crock to Messrs Corcoran Bros, for the sum of £!)!) l."w, and for the bsidges and a]> pioachei to Mr Clifford for the sum of i'llo. The conti actors have .signed thoir ie*> peftne bonds, winch aie handed in heiewith. Mossis Corcoran started woik with a stiongbtaff on the 27th July, and have got nearly five chains of the new cut made. The drain on the Whatawhata load has been cut and led into the now drain lately cut fiom King-street, Alexandia. The new sheeting, wings, and improving the appro iches to McNicol's bridge has been completed. Tendeis have been called for and aie to be opened to day for diversion of the load at Hindlc's budge. Ibegto hand in tw o tracings of the bridges at Te Aw amntu and Gilford's Hill, to be forwarded to the Minister for Public Woiks, these works b-'ing constructed under the Roads and Budges Construction Act.— l have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient servant, All-X. AIWSTKONG. The following works wore authoiised :— Necessary repairs to the Alexandia to station road, and Te Awamutu to Kilnkihi road. Tendero to be called for works on the Alexandra-Ohaupo road as piouded for under the Roa^ls and Bridges grant. Road from the Mang.apiko bridge towards Te Awamutu to be raised. Tkxdeus.— The following tendeis were received for diversion at Hindle's • — Ltmmor and Soott, £40 ; Jas. Coombe«, £4'! 3, ; \\. Waite, £48 13s Id ; R. Dellic.u, £1!) XX ; Caldei and Sons, £57 5.s ; W. Jones, £70; Eggleston and Barton, £70; J. Kennedy, £80. Limmerand Scott's tender was accepted Lovks. — No intimation having been received as to payment of grants under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, the clerk was diiected to wire to the Minister for Public Works, and enquire the leason, aloo to the member for Waipa, and lequest him to move in the master. PvrKiiAVci Factohy Hill.— The cleik was diiected to apply to the Mangapiko lload Board for their guarantee of shaio of cost as agreed, piior to calling for tender". It was resolved to hold a special mooting on September Bth, and notice was given t<> leluin to Tuesday for meeting day. The council then ios t >,
