Tho bom d being determined to enforce the law relating to the furze nuisance resolved to take legal proceedings against l"i propeity ownoi.s. It was also lesolved to mic 13 defaulters for nun payment of rates. Mr (iresham was instructed to take legal proceedings in both case*. Owing to the fact that some )>enple have been in the habit of cutting down and removing eartli horn the footpaths, the board placed the matter in the hands of the locil constable, instiucting him to |iio->ccutc anyone found doing s<> in future. The clerk was instiucted to telcgiaph to Mr Like, M.H.R., re the Kihikihi town endowment*. Tenders aie called for works in Church, Carey, Walm-ley and Moule-strcets. Several small \cc»unts weie passed for payment. Tho board then rose. MIn(TM.\NKOI'S. The new I'ro-.byten mi Church is now finished, and it is one of the piottiest that can be imagined. The ornament il work on the outride is very tasteful, and the uisido is quite in keeping with the e\tenor. The workmanship reflects the highest credit on Mr I). Ogle, thecontractoi. The inside of tho belfry is ceiled at the top of the pillars, thus preventing bird-, fiotn building nwde ; ovor the flouts of the ventilators wire netting has been fixed to prevent buds getting inside. The allotment is fenced, and tho surface skimmed to kill the couch grass. It w ill be planted with ornamental tiees, and laid down in pi ass ; the giound on which the rhurch stand-, being much higher than tho main street ; the committee intend terracing it. A number of the residents met and did tho woik. The gravelling of tho paths and the tei racing of the mam street frontage will also bo done gratuitously. The weather having been so fine for the last few week-., woik on the railway line has been pushed on vigouiously. Mr Colenian has a party of twenty-seven at work on his contract. The othei contr.icton are pu-.li-ing on with their woik as fast as possible, the men vvoiking over time when possible. A few evening-, ago a gentleman went up with a light into the bolfiy of the Roman Catholic Chappl heio, and did some execution among the .sparrows, killing seventy. If this example wt.ro followed in other places of worship and public buildings it would thin tho birds out. They are getting veiy tioublesom 1 , f->r they bi.ild in eveiy place they can get into. The spouting round buildings is a favourite place, with the result that tht» pipe-, me stopped up, and do not carry off the v\ iter. In one school I haw the vvatei 1 mining down between the lining and the weathei bonrds, and flooding the floor. The guttonng whs stopped up with nests. — (Own Coirespondent.) _____________
