A NOVEL KIND OF ROAD BOARD.
Ouit What.iw hata correspondent writes :—: — A new tiling in road boards was staitod heir on Monday last. In tho immediate vicinity of What<iwhnt.i, jiiit over the river, lies the parish of Karainu. The lesidents of tins parish met some short time ago to discuss tiio advisability of forming 4 road board, but decided not to do so. On Monday a few of them met again, but this time they mot at a spot which sadly needed repairs. Instead of bringing tho act with them, they bi ought pickri, bhovels, barrows, etc., and then, without appointing a chairman, or even striking a rate, off went ccuts and at it they went like men of sense, and soon gave a good account of themselves by nction.s and not words. The spot was at a creek which formed an impassable obstacle to a farmer (Mr Wilson) coming in from his farm, also pieventing Ins children fiom coming to school. Now a oils crt spans the creek, a hill has been cut down, and the road made fit for foot or wheel traffic.
