RAILWAY REFORM LEAGUE.
A mkfting of the New Zealand Railway Hufotia League was hold yesrei day. In the absence of the piesidont, Mi Rhodes, Mr W. A. Giaham, the ch.iuman of tho Executive Committee, occupied the chair. The action of the Executive Committees in tlio conduct of the business with referanco to tho getting up the petition was endorsed, ana on the motion of Captain Steele, seconded by Mr Seddon, it was unanimously lesobed " That the th.mks of the League be tundeied to the secietaiy, Mi Yon Stunner, fm the gieat tiouble lie ha*, taken in foiw.uding the views of tho L°ngue, and that a stun of ten guineas be voted to him as an acknowledgement of Ins sen ices." On the motion of Captain Steele, seconded by Mi I'iinnose, it was n'-nhed "That the secu-taiy send the petition to Mi J. P> Wh\te, M.H X , hy to-moi tow's tiain fm ptesentatioii to Path uncut, togethei with the lettet to Mi Whyte, appio\ed by the meeting." 111 1 was stated by the tieasurer that the amount collected towatds the cost of getting np the petition amountod to some £!1, which would leave a deficiency of about £20. It was i esolved that members of the League nidi udunlly sliould canvass foi subscriptions to meet tlio deficiency, and it was hoi)ed that the public would libotally re-pond to the appeal. It is estimated that neatly as many mine signatiues ha\e yet to be leceived fiom countiy districts in both islands. Sheets of thoso aie indeed coming in daily, and they will be forwarded to Mr J. B. Wlivte, the mumber for Waikato, for ;;rohent.ition to Pat liameiit later on in the se-sion. Waikato mij be congtatulated on having initiated a colonial movement of such laige impoitance and in lia\ing earned it out with so much spmt and entcipnse.
