JUSTICE'S JUSTICE. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — I, along with sewial others in this neighbourhood, weic greatly astonished .t the decision gnen by tlio nugistiates against the bo\s Howcll and Kennedy. The lightest sentence I expected them to get was one nioiith'i solitaiy confinement, winch they nehly deceived. Theothet day we saw a m.m get nnie months foi bie.iking into a wh.ue in the I'iako. In this case thero weio three cases of bieaking and enteiing, scvoial cases of horse stealing, stcdinjf middles, robbing safe-., <.to.il in fowN, A.C., which could be bi ought homo to tlii'in. The above breaches of the law have been carried on after lepe.ited w.nnlngi f i om myself and others, ,md it Kmy Opinion that the sentence given the other day is nothing shoit of an encoui.igement to them and ntheti to go and do likewise. The p.iltiy fine imposed m this caso comes down on the parent-*, who aie veiy much to blame, for thoy well knew theii sons were sleeping fiom home, and weio liable to be anested for vagi.mey. It appeals wo lute "'> protection for propcity whateser, but should I come acio-,s them on my premises aftei niuo p.m. I will .idimuistei the law myself, in the shapo of tho hoi-o-whip, let the consequence be what it may. liy inserting the abo\e in your \aluablo paper you will gicatly oblige amongst tho re*t, AA r K'ii\t. [Tn inserting this letter we aro constrained to say we approve of the course adopted by the justices. Tho punishment administered may have the effect of refoiminp tho offenders ; to send them to gaol would in all probability make them confirmed ciiHiinnls.--.Ki>.]
