Br Nathan d. Übner.

Phil's crop vra.3 late, and it came to paes^ , Without any one fault finding, ■ That Nelly, the upland farmer's law, Should lend a hand at the binding ; For Phil had aided h«r sire with care In his earlier harvest labor, _ | And turn about is a rule but fair When yon have an obliging nsighbor. So, binding the corn, with no one near, And their hands on the wispa oft meeting, What wonder if compliments sweet to hear Should hint how their hearts were beating, Since Phil had for months in flpcret known j That his neighbor's lass was a treasure, And Nelly had many a side-glance thrown At Phil with a sense of pleasure ? •' I've s mind," said Phil, "Binco we're Bftfe from surprise, " To snatch a small kiss, just to try you. •• Tabs care," said Nelly ; *• potatoes have eyes, And there's a heap in the field pretty nigh you." I " I've a mind," said Phil, " to defy my fearr v And tell you how much I love you," " Take care," said NelJy ; " the oorn has ears That are nodding around and abovo you.' Phil puzzled a space, then her rips lips kissed, In spite of her apt reminders, And then, with an impulse ha couldn't resist As their hands met again on the binders, Ha clasped her form, end he whispered low : 11 Let whiap, wilheand other ties sevor, So I bind op this sheaf of your love'a ham st glow In my heart's core forever and ever ! " For answer, her breath o'er his ruddy oheek Bwept, Like the dream of a kiss, and thereafter At binding thd com they so joyously kept, And with so much soft banter and laughter That the hours passed away in » glad, rosy round, Though completed was half the work only, While every one guessed that two hearts had been bound, With the corn in that harvest field lonely.
