The Baby's Hearse.

It crept along through the dark moving mass of rushing humanity, whito and pure, like a thread of silver light winding in and out through all the dense thronga of life, on its silent way to the great city of death. On the little white casket, in the little hearse, lay wreaths of snowy rose-buds, just tinged with the color of life ; masses of foliage, amid which gleamed lilies white as snow ; a cross of daisies and a crown of violets ; and I could not see the panorama for tears, for I thought I heard a mother calling, " la it well with the child ; is it well ? " And when I looked again, in place of the white horaeß and the baby's hearse was a heavenly mirage of still waters and green fields, and the little children playing and a voice of love saying ; "Of such is the kingdom of Heaven." Then I longed to find the mother and tell her "It is well with the child, it is well." But all the little pageant of death had vanished, and I heard only the roar of commeroa and the din of fashion, as I plodded on wearily in the chill November day. " Not till I come to lie In suoh white sleep as f posies ; within my hand The immortelles : poace, silence mystery Upon me shall I know and understand."
