The National Hotel had also been inspected, and t>\ei> tiling found to the entire sati»fartion c>f the coiiiiin-»ioner*<. — Lieeme planted. The Chainn.ui !<.iid tliey h.\d aho paid a visit of ni-pection to tlie Cnteiion Hotel. This home, he regretted to .say, had not been found in that state which could be termed satisfactory. The condition of tho yard was Mich that the bench did not consider it their duty to lenew the licence unless it weie put in a more seemly condition. With all due respect to the police lepott they could not, in justice to the public whom they represented, allow this matter to pass unnoticed. The public elected them to administer the law in this matter, and theii object was to deal fairly with the hotelkeepcis on the one hand and the general public on the other. The pievious licensing bench had lefjuested Mr Hcuitt to in.iku ceit.un sanitary improvements, but t-i all appeaiances their represent ihons it id been altogether overlooked. Mr Ashrr then lcfened m detail to what the bench thought was wanting. The uriiiil was in the wrong place, and the closets wuie not in the cleanest condition possible. Unless the necessary impiovenieiits weie cth-tted the bench could not see their way to (,'umt the license. They accordingly 'had decided to adjourn the application for seven days to give tho applicant an oppmtunity to make good the deficiency. These imi>rovenients would have to be carried out to the satisfaction of the councillors. — Application adjourned for bcven dajs.
