HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A letter was load fiotn the Town Clerk of l'arnell, lntiiii (ting that the council of that boiough li.id decided against any change in the manner of rating as proposed by the (Jovernment, by substituting the pmpeity t:i\ \nlu:ition. The Town Cleik of Auckland wiote, stating that the matter had not jet been before the council, but peisonally lif 1 was opposed to the change. It was resolved that a respectful reply be sent to Sir Julius Vogel, intimating that the council was opposed to the proposed change. The Uuder-Secretary for Education wrote, stating that the icserve applied for by the Mayor, lot 413, Hamilton Must, 1.10 acres, would lie set aside as a reserve for secondary education in the Waikato, in the event of the Cimvn Lands Department being able to leport that no reason exists why it should not be so appiopriated. The Mayor reported that since the leceipt of this letter he had waited on the Clown Lands autlioi it ies, who had no objection to handing o\er the leserve. The Woiks Committee lepoited on various small works completed and in progiess in the boiough. The Town Cleik lead tho h-t of the lots giantod to the borough as endowments as follows.— Hamilton East, Xos. IS4 to ISO inclusive, 374 to 370, 300 to .W>, each one acie. Hamilton \Yu--t : 13li and 137, each 2acies; 148, 2ioods 27 peiches ; 1!»2, lilil, 200, 204, 20~>, 210, and 211, 1 aeie e.ieh ; 21!) to 224, 1 acie each ; 220 to 2311, 1 acre each ; 377, 377 \, and 380, 1 acre each ; 40S, 3 roods and 25 peiches ; 4") and 4">li, 8 acres. — The Clerk pointed out that the whole of these lots weie practically valueless, and did not include one of the allotments applied for by the council.— After some discussion, it was agreed that the Mayor should pioceed to Wellington in lcfereuce to this and other matters of mteiest to the boiough. — His Woi ship intimated that he would lie willing to piooeed to Wellington if desirable, and would gladly give the time necessary to fuitheimg the ititoiextt> of Hamilton. An application to have Thackeray-street and Ohaupo road giavelled was defeired. The overdraft was ropoited to be fc."»72 11s Id. Accounts amounting to t'lS 10s 8d were passed foi payment.
