THE HARDEN "STAR" HAND GRENADE FIRE EXTINGUISHER.

A tire was extemporised by a large packing case being built up to repienent the wall of a house, and on it being plentifully saturated with kerosene, and a hre of straw, etc, being kindled at the bottom, thu whole atfair burst into a sheet of name. It was in a fair way of being demolished, when the Harden Hand Grenade, a flask holding about a pint of chemical composition, was huiled at the scieen with a c» ash, and the flames weie instantly checked, a second and thud gienado was thrown, and the hie was until ely suppressed on the walls of the sen een. A second e\peiiment of a. similar kind by re-saturating the woodwork with kerosene, and re kindling another fire, was made, the heat was intense, the flames shot up with a ioni, and agun the hand gienade was sent Clashing into the volume of flame, which was subdued immediately, and three othcts quite extinguished the hre with the exception of a little smouldering in the joinings of the timber. For a third time the wooden chimney was lighted, and the flames had complete hold of it, shooting up in one sheet, the Hank was hurled again, and tho hre was almost under in the " twinkling of an eye." A socojid gienade extinguished it entirely. This was the most successful one. of the thiee. The effect of tho urenads is wonderful, and, from its popularity in (ire.it Britain and the United States, cannot fail to be adopted htiie. The grenado ih very simple. It is .1 glass bottle or flask, containing a pint of chenncaf fluid, which, upon coming in contact witlijthe hro, givefc off a gas which at once destroys combustion. It is quite harmless, and may be kept ready for in staut use in any Dart of a. dwelling house 01 wtuehouse.
