DisTVNCE Posts. — Some time ago the council applied foi pci mission to erect signboaids indicating distance on the tclegiaph |)oles between Cainbndgo and Taupo. A loply was received from the Telegraph Commissioner intimating that permission vvas granted. Thkßvhkkji-Co* Ensonß.— Mr E. Y. Cok, Shaftesbury, wroto a long letter in reply to the charges preferred against him by Mis Barker about trespass, cutting fences, &c. The dispute arose from an attempt on the part of Mrs Barker to debar the public from the u.se of the road to the whaif which had been in use since the formation of the settlement. Mr Huniner, agent foi tho (I rant ;md Foster Settlement and the Crown Lauds Office, had pronounced tho road m question a public road. He had asked Mis Barker to have tho matter settled by summoning him to court for trespass. If the public were shut out from this toad, the county council would have to form tho (Government road through a piice of swamp to the edge of the river, and as cattle and horses could not be crossed there, the road would have to Ie cont nued round the nvei leseiveto tho wharf, by this means Mis Barker would have to give up tho u&e of tin oe tunes a.s much land as in dispute. Wilson's Road, Waioronkouai.— Ro taking a road through Wilson's (Thames High School Reserve) property, Waioiongoniai, a letter vvas received fiom tho Crown lands office to tho effect that the titlo m the case of the High School endowment iva* issued under " Tho Thames Boys' and ( Jirls' Nigh School Act, WB," and is datid ith July, 1884. It is subject to the right on the piit of the Clown to take nccen«iiiy loids through the land as provided by section 10)! of tlie "Native Land Act, 1873."- Tlie clerk was instructed to write to the Chief Surveyor, .inking him to recommend the Governor to take the road under tho provisions of the act named. A number of accounts amounting to t'. r )0!l 2s were passed foi payment. Tho monthly meeting of the council in futuro was fixea for eveiy Ith Thursday at (i. 90 p. in. This was all the business.
