THE TAURANGA ELECTION. Mr Kelly Asked to Withdraw. [BY TELEGRAPH.]
Rorom \, Tuesday THE following requisition to Mr Win. Kelly is being numerously signed in Rotoruiv and adjacent districts :—: — Rotorua, 27th Apnl, 1885. To Mr Kelly. . In view of the approaching election of a member of the House of Repsesentatnes for this district, we would respectfully represent to jmi (an one of the two candidate* now in the held) the desirability of strengthening tho position of our member in the H->use, by letunnng the other candidate, Mr tthoehan, unopposed. Mr Sheehan's gn\it talents and long Parliamentary experience places him, we consider, in the front rank of the New Zealand statesmen, and one whose experience as our representative would be likely to prove invaluable to this district, and also to the colony generally. Fuither, you are equally with Mr Sheehan a supporter of the present Stout Ministry, while your own views regarding the speedy settlement of the waste lands of the colony, whether Ciown or native, h:ne in Mr Sheehan one of the most popular and powerful .id\oc.ites. Colonial defence, federation, and the grave questions affecting this and all the colonies arising from the impending European war, rendeis it specially impelalive on thin occasion to return the most eNpeitenced of our public men to the (General Assembly. For the^o reasons we therefore feel no diffidence in asking you to sink at this time all simply loc il or personal considerations, and generously and patnoticnlly retire from the field in favour of Mr Sheehun.
