Persistent rumours ha^ve been current lately in political circles that a peaceful settlement of the Russo-Atftfhan difficulty lias been effected, but up to the present time nothing of a tangible nature h.is tianspired in reference to the matter in question. In the House of Commons, today, Mr Gladstone took occasion to deny tlic statement -which has been circulated to the effect that PenjDeh had been conceded to Russia.
