DUNEDIN, \Vedneday<_ A five occurred at Ot.ikio on Monlay, and destroyed a stack contaiuing 200 bags of oats, the property of Mr Thomai Shand, and \alued at £70. The oats were uninsured. This is the second fire on the same farm recently, and incendiarism is suspected. The Defence Department has been offend through Lieut.-Col. Staveley, the services of a number of men who are excellent workmen, and thoroughly acquiring ted with the Coast line between VVaikouaiti and the Taieri; the idea is that such a corps of irregulars could act a* scouts. A deputation from the Univer»£ty Council waited on Mr Lurnach to-d»y to ask Government for assistance towards establishing a school of mines in connection with the Uui\ersity.
