RAGLAN.
A i,\R(.E number of visitors have been staying heio during the past month, and th<" \.uiou> places of inteicst in the neighbourhood have been visited. On the morning of the 10th, Mr and Mrs Horne ascended Karioi. Leaving the town .about seven o'clock, they reached the foot of the mountain at eight, and being accompanied by a guide, began the accent. The day being very fine, and haidly a cloud to be seen, the summit was icached between 11 and 12, and although several parties have ascended of late, on no occasion has the day being finer. The uew on the occasion was grand beyond description. Aotea, Kawhia, Mt Egmont, Ruapehu, Tongariro, Hamilton, Cambridge, and the Waikato and Waipa districts could be seen on the South and East. On the North, Raglan, Te Akau, Waikato Heads, Manukau Heads, «uid m the dun distance Hokianga. On the Wp4, .it then feet, the Pacific Ocean with the Block Rock and Gannet Island. After staying about an hour on the summit, they descended, reaching the foot of the mountain about half-post fne, \ery much pleased with their tiip, and as they leturned to Raglan, the whole mountain was aglow with the rays of the setting sun, casting its glorious light on mountain, land, and sea. The week before Easter the Rev. W. Phillips paid uh his quarceily \isit, holding services at Ruapuke, Te Mata. and in Raglan. On the Sunday evening, a good congregation assembled to hear him. After paying a visit to the numerous settlers in the district ho returned homo. The weather has been very beautiful for some week* past. And a great many applet, Dears and other fruit trees are now in full bloom showing the mildness of the reason. A good deal of grass has been sown the last few weeks. Winter oats are looking well, also the turnip crop. The s.*.. Han nah Mokaucame up yesterday, bunging a good cargo, and taking away a Luge number of pigs for the Auckland market, and a number of passengers. A very serious accident happened to Major Tuke, R.M., who on his return from Raglan, was thrown from 4ns horse near Te Mata. After being conveyed across Aotua Harbour, he was being taken to his home at Kawhia, when the trap upset and he was again hint. Mr Stephenson, the newly-appointed Wesleyan minister, arrived this evening, and will hold "-ervice to-morrow. On Monday last the Rev. W. Slade, Wesleyan minister, was man led to Mi>s M. J. Gilmour, of this place. The Rev. J. Dukes performed the ceremony. The happy pan leftfoi Auckland, via. Hamilton, during the forenoon, taking with them tin best wishes of a ntunoious cnclc of friends.
