TE AROHA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRSPONDENT.]
Te Ahoha, Monday. ALTHOUOH much publicity has not of late been gt\ on to the proceedings of the committee appointed some time since to catry out the preliminary work in the formation of the proposed borough, matters in connection with the movement are being pushed steadily forwaid. The petition has been signed by a large majority of the householder* of Quartzvillo and Waiorongomai, an well as of Te Aioha, and now lies, together with a map showing the bound.it ies of the projected municipality, at the Public Library for inspection. It is not likely that any formidable opposition will now be offered, and, though many persons are still of opinion that nutters «iro hardly yet ripe enough for local government nf the nature arrived at, the object will in .ill pro bability be Bluntly recompiled. The domain boaid is making goiwl miof the money recently granted for (io\eminent for the improvement ot the baths. Tenderi h.ivo been called for tins consttuction of a plunge bath, to be act apart exclusively for the use of ladies. It is to be similar to Nob. 1 and 2, and will, when completed, be of very great con\emenco, and will add immensely to the comfoit of the gentler sex. Nothing ban yet been done by the county authorities to have the biidlo track of the mines cleared of tho timber blown dor m by the recent gale. Tho load is blocked in two or three places, and e-pecially at tho Weraluko camp, where an enoi mous postrate r.ita tree completely obstmcts the way, and causes a largo amount of inconvenience to packers and others, who, with their horses, are compelled to climb the steep and difficult ground above tho track. Seeing that then* h not much doing on tho tramway at present, tho workmen might very well bo spared for two or three days to clear tho road, and make ft again fit for traffic. It is satisfactory to noto that steps aro b^ing taken to placo our chief thoroughfare in a detent state of rojwir before the approach of winter. Tenders aro united for metalling tho main Toad between hero and Wiiiorougoniai, and al«<> for forming footpaths in our principal street. Both works aro much wanted, and it is well that they are t<> bo c irrn-d out before the wet season, as the state of the road lust winter, and e?peci.illy of the side-walks in tho township, wiii a standing reproach to the place. The coming conceit in aid of the building fund of the public library on E.ister Monday is likely to be a great success. In addition to the bent of the locil talent, valuable assistance has been piomised fr.un other qnaiters, and the entertiinment is likely to prove one of tho most pleasing affairs of tlu kind that has yet bjen held in this district.
