Extra naval precautions are being taken here, and the force will probably be materially augmented without delay. Attention, moreover, is being gi\en to torpedoes for clef ensi\ c purposes. Considerable anxiety is expressed here regarding the present unprotected state of Albany in West Australia. MrSargood, the Defence Minister, lias tipp loved of the proposal to invite Royal Navy officers to otter for service in connection -with the local defences.
