Over 1(50 entries have been received, 52 moie than last year. The Times this morning announces that Blickburne, the culebiated English chess player, now in Australia, will probably visit New Zealand. An old man named James Radford was sent to gaol for 14 days by Mr Beetham, R.M., to-day, for cruelty to a girl nine years of age, whom he had adopted. The child had been tied up with a rope by the hand and feet to a bedpost on sevctal occasions, one day from 8 a.m. to 5 p. in , and again left alone in tho house tied to the bedpost.
