Adklaiuk, February 17, The South Australian Covernniciit have ottered 250 men for service in the Soudan.

Tlio Governor recei\ ed ;i telegram to-day from Lord Wolseley, dated tin; Soudan, February 10, in which His Lordship says :— " Please inform the troops coming here that I look forward with pride and honour at having Australian soldiers under my command in the field." The arrangements for the despatch of the troops are progi cssing favourably. In addition to the Iberia, the steamer Australasia will probably be chartered as a transport. The enrolment of the force is nearly completed. Jt will consist in all of 734 officers and men, and 200 horses. The following particulars are contained in the messages to the Press Association, dated London February Kith : -The owners of the steamer Australasia Ims offered that steamer for the purpose of com eying the New South Wales Contingent to the Soudan. Several other shipowners h.i\e made enquiries with the Aiew of assisting in the conveyance of the troops. The offer of further assistance made by the Canadian Government for the repression of the Soudan rebellion has been accepted by the Imperial Government. The Victorian Government ha\e asked for details regarding the refusal of assistance from Victoria. The Press generally eulogises the action of the colonies in the mattet . The Times states that the British soldiers should welcome those from the colonies, and suggests that the Queen should 2»'esent them with a standard. The Marquis of Hnrtington has not yet replied on an offer of asist nice in the Soudan made by South Australia. The authorities on the subject are piotesting against the laying of a line of railway to Berber. Osnuii J)igua is foittfjmg his position at Tamai.
