THE HAMILTON ROAD CONTRACT

Snt,— -lii your issue of this morning appeals un anonymous letter headed "The Hamilton ro«ui contract and the Engineer" ni which the -writer designates himself *'<me of the contractor'-." Now sn, tlieie wa^ only one contractor known to me, 01 to the board in this contract, and his name is Hiocklesby. On S iturday last this contiactorcame to me voluntarily, and in the presence of Mr Hreakull, 0.X., andotheiinformed me that lie had n«> compl.unt against me, that I had gnen him e\eiy a» distance incaiiymg out his contract, th.it he had never written the letter to the board, that the whole thing was got up by one who was no friend of mine, that t knew who it was. hut he would not mention hi-, name ; and generally throwing all the blame on the shouldeis of the paity unnamed, who h.id, lie slid, concocted the whole affair. The whole tenor and style of the letter gnes evidence of having been wntten by a homewhat better educated individual, and savours strongly of the atylo of a wellknown clerk and accountant, but if so he must ha.\e written it for -oine one else, and it is the author's name I want, when he will probably find to his cost that the plan, the Kpecification, and the work done, exactly agree with one anotiiei.--! am, &c.
