' .3 HLBOLK HANPK'AP. Jim • • 1 Macc.ironi 2 Linwood •* EXTENSION OF POST-OFFICE BUILDINGS AT TE AWAMUTU. . «. Is connection with the above matter Mi Sloane, cli.ujui.m of the Ruigiaohia High way Board, waited on the lion. Mr Jiallance at Finch's hotel, Alexandra, on Thursday evening. Mr Sloane explained to the Native Minuter the utter want of accommodation at present existing, and the urgent necesMty that exist* for enlarging the building, and pointed out that theie is ample room in front of the present building for another, which could be used for telegraph and postal purposes, thus leaving the present one for the use of the postmaster foi a dwelling. The living rooms m the office are small, and ""'-"•ted to the requirements of a family. Mi Jiallance listened attentively to these remarks, and entirely agieed with Mr Sloane as to the need of additions, and promised that the matter should be attended to immediately, and the additions built. Mr Sloane also dicw the Minister's attention to the, fact that one of the old emigration cottage* standing in Herbeit street was Used as a dwelling by Sergt.-Major Carley, and aski-d if it could lw handed o\er to the library trustees to be erected on the new hbr.il y site for a library and reading room. Mr Ballance at once acquiesed, and thought it was an excellent use to put the building to, and s.iid Sergt. -Major Carley should get a month's notice to remo\ c, and hami the building over to the trustees. Mr Sloane said he estimated the cost of removal and re-erection, with fencing, &c, would be about £40. By his action with regard to the t>ost-oftice it will be seen that Mr Sloane still keeps the welfaie of the district in view. He is ceitainly entitled to the thanks of the public for having secured the addition to the building.— (Own Correhpondtiiit.) ABSTRACT OF SALES BY AUCTION. This I)\y. Mkssks W. J.
