V I'll! [ IMIN \K\ tll.ll of the tl-tIOC Clltt"! invented by Mi Henry Reynolds, of Wo >d 1 md-, took place on S.itnrday on .1 piece of land adjoining the M.iug.iomia. railway stition, I'i.iko road. The trial, though it disolo~i.il tho need tor some improvement-., imi-,t bj considered to li ue been successful. The machine, winch i-i drawn by t\\»> horse-, ii quite different in its pi mci]il«> fioin that constituted by Mr McLuiglil.n and fully de-.ciibed in these cohiiinis souk time ago. That machine, it will be ie meinbeied, j)eifoiincd its woik with le volung knives on a homont.il wheel, lint Mi Reynolds has taken tho mowing machine .is his basis. ]t is adapted foi light and heavy ti-tieo, for which scpaiate knive-. aie piovided. For the hi'ht stuff the kniff Ipiotected by flnger-i on the bar, as on tlie iiiow<>r, and tin*, when put to the tesf, did its work thoioughly well, cutting ti tice uj> to. in inch thick. The knifo for the ho.v y sciub is not protected by fni-jeis, but hiiron sections undcrno.ith, att ichcrl to tin bar, against which the ti-tree is pie-.-od and cut. This also worked well when' the ti tree was thick, but when it got into the light stuff it choked. The absence of the npp n atus for throwing the cut ti tree oft the machine wns also observable. JSefoie the next trial Mr Reynolds intends to attach fingers to the heavy bar, the throw-ing-off arrangement will bo affixed, and some other minor alterations will be effected, as suggested by Saturday's operations The machine, which was the bubject of much favourable comment, is lematkihh well made, and is the work of Me-si^ Christian and Powell, the blacksmith and caipentei at Woodlands.
