The report <>t the Royal Commission on the unemployed question in Chtistchurcli has been received by the Government. A large mass of evidence has been taken, but the report itself is said to be in foimal, and will be sent back to the commissioners to be sot right. It is undeistoood that a serious difficulty has ai lsen in connection with a lajge order for locomoth es sent home by the late Government. The order was for twenty locomotives, and the total cost somewhere about £30,000, and is believed that now they are constructed a deviation in the plans has been dis covered, and the engines are not suitable for the work for v\ hiuh they were required. However, the tullest enquiry is being made on the subject, and it is more than likely that the Hon. the Minister for Public Works v\ ill lefusc to take them over. Five of those locomotives are expected to arrive in the colony shortly.
