HOOD-STREET CULVERT.
TO THK KDITOK. Sill, —In answer to the letter in your last issue signed No. '27, 1 would suggest that the writer make himself acquainted with facts before rushing into print. If he will take the trouble to enquire at tiie council chambers he will find that tenders wore opened last Monday for an IS-inch pipe, the estimated cost being £60, not £1M as your correspondent states. The writer suggests that the pipes shall be carried at a sluggish grade when a better fall can be obtained, but he does not give any definite size for the pipe he proposes. As he evidently is unacquainted with the simple rule " The greater the fall the smaller the pipe required," I do not think that anybody with common sense will take much notice of his letter.—l am, &c\, C. F. Xaitkh, C.E.
