HOOD-STREET CULVERT.
TO THE LIHTOK. Nik,- I sec by The Waikato Times of Tuesday, that the engineer to the council said that tho job as proposed at Hood-street was not n permanent work, ami yot it was proposed to spend JL'ISO on it. Tliis seems astonishing, and surely shows that it was abont time the change cunc. F.incy tMM) for a ccniporary bit of drainage, and it is now proposed to carry the water across Anglosca street as more fall is ito be obtained. I would ask is this a permanent job ? It is not ! Therefoic do not do it. Mr Munro is quite entitled have tho huge dram in fiont of Ins house filled in. Well, do it ! but do it with .smaller pipes than 2t inch, and at a fair cost for a temporary job, but do not let us spend our lates, which aie little enough, in doing a touiporuiy Job in a permanent &t\le, and so waste money. Beyond making Mr Munros frontage safe, I cannot sco what requires to be dono. The piesent diain has done fairly well for some time past, and until the diainago levels, as lived by Mr Campbell, at a cost of i' % 2."> some time since, me brought into use, why speud moie money than is absolutely necessary on any large pipes, &c. So long as I thought that tha 24 inoh pipos were going in at the permanent lovel, I in common with others said little, but we arc quite pleased that the job was not carried out. — I am, &c. No. '27.
