Ar a meeting of the Te Awamutu Town JJistuct B< ard and the Kangiaohia Highway Bo.\id, to dctcuiiiue what poition of lates will bo com eyed fiom the lattei body to the fomier as pieseiibed by the Act, Air Walton the cha.ii man of the Town Jioaid read the sections of the Act beaung upon the matter — -Mr Sloane Chan man of the Highway Board said that in his opinion it would be impossible", to settle the matter until a map was made showing the exact amount of land taken fiom the various holdings for the new Town Distiict. He said he had applied to Mv Tole who surveyed the town boundaries, and Mho has the map of the Highway District, for this map with the boundaiies of the town di'-tuct defined on it so that the boaidb could ainvo at a proper understanding on the matter, but Mr Tole, he found, was absent in Auckland, so he was unable to get the map. — Mr Walton thought they might give and take a little in the mattei. — Mi Sloane said his boaid objected to sign any conveyance of rates until they could ascei tain the acreage taken fiom them, as by that means the amount of lates due could be ascei tamed. —Mi Walton said his boaid agieed to this.— The meeting was theiefoie adjourned till 7 p.m. on Thuisday, 15th Januaiy, 1885. — Mr Sloanc explained that in view of the expense attendant upon forming a town district his boaid had kept down the expenses as much os possible, so that theie would be little or no liabilities to be taken over by the new town boaid. — Mr Walton undertook to lia\eamap piovided by the date of next meeting.
PICNIC AT UK 11A1IU. Che annual picnic in connection with the To Riihu hchool a.\ ill take place tomoiiow (Wcdnesdiiy), at Mr Walter's farm, Te Kahu. The gatheung will not, however, be confined to the children, it is intended as much for the gi own up people, foi the public will be made welcome. Ample piei-.ii.itum have been made for the entertainment of the guests, subscriptions for that purpose having been collected. A ball will be held in the evening in the school100111. The Te Awatnutu band, under the leadership of Mr Sibley, will be in attendance dm ing the day, so that those who line music will ha\e theii taste gratified. The hospitality of the settleis of that distnct is pioverbial, foi those who ha\e attended tho^e pleasant leumons have always looked back with pleasure to them, and anticipations of another pleasant day to come. — (Own Coiiespondent.)
