BALCLUTHA, Monday. News has been received here of the drowning of the Rev. C4eorge Morrice, while bathiug at Molyneauv. Another telegram says : — The Rev, George Morrice, Presbyterian Minister at Balclutha, was staying at Port Molyneaux for the holidays. Mrs Morrice was bathing, and getting into danger, Mr Morrice went to her assistance, but lost his own life. Mrs Morrice was got out by some Maoris, and she was restored to animation. Mr Mor rice's body was recovered. The affair occurred in view of the nurse and children, of whom he leaves five. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The amount of property tax received up to yesterday was £30,000. It is understood that the hearing of the application made by the defendant in the libel action, Vogel v. New Zealand Times, has been postponed till the first sitting after the Christinas vacation. An old colonist, uamed Joseph Milstead who for a long time had been a messenger to the Minister of Public Works, died to day. Wednesday. Kincaid, McQueen and Co., have a contract in hand to build a steel sciew steamer for the Dnnedin-Invercargill tiade. She will be 135 feet long. The contract time is seven months. The recent All nations' Fair will result in £1150 nett being divided amongst the five Anglican churches of the city and suburbs. The lev. Mr C4alter, the new minister of the Presbyterian First Church, arrived by the Arawata. to-day. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Mrs ftuller, widow of the late Itev. James Bnller, died this evening, having survived her husband only seven weeks. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The body of Frank Morton, carpenter, who is believed to have drowned himself atßalcluthaa fottnight ago, was found to-day on the beach a!; Poi c Alolyneaux.
