The Melbourne manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zpalaml (Limited) reports of the local grain market as follows : — Wheat, in fail- demand at 3s lOd to 3s lid. Malting barley, 4s to 4s 6d, an improvement in the market. New Zealand oats (feeding sort?), 3s 9d to 3s lid ; market flat anrt prices nominal. Milling sorts are quieter and weaker at 3s lid to 4s Id. New Zealand oats, under bond, 3s to 3s Id ; prices are barely maintained.

November, 25. The consideration of the protest lodged against Rufus, the winner of the V.R.C. I)erby, concluded to-day, and resulted in its dismissal. The death is announced of Sir William Mitchell, President of the Legislative Council, from gastritis, induced by eating borne poisonous fish on Saturday lafet. Both Houses of Parliament adjourned to-da3', as a maik of respect te the late Sir William Mitchell.
