TE AWAMUTU TOWN DISTRICT ELECTION.-A STORM IN A TIN TEAPOT.

TO THE KDirOU. Sru,— l cannot regard the acts of these few would-be commissioners, and their present efforts to ret.iin office, only from the state of excitemont into winch their dormant minds have fallen. Two gentlemen who were elected, knowing that the election fioin beginning to end was illegal, have filed their resignation in the R.M. Court heie — viz., Mossis J. H. Mandeno and J. K. Wright. The cream of tho joke was at the meeting on Wednesday evening. Tho would-be chairman, Mr Walton, declaied that the inteiest of the public had been moused in the matter of the petifcition against the election. In fact, the electors weie signing a paper stating that they were quites.itislied w itli the election, and that any inqimy was not desired by them, and in shoit, that such enquiry was against public opinion, it is surpiising to depict the .state of depravity some men will wallow into. The paper which he intioducedat the meeting was earned lound by himself, and his colleague, Mr J . Ji Teasdale, and forced the lesidents, and all that came in their wav, to sign the same. Many of the signatures weie obtained in Mr Lewis' Hotel bar, on Wednesday evening, between the hours of 0 and 10 p.m. The would-be chaiiia.m mslied into the street after a man who lefused, and hauled him back into the hotel to sign his document, who piolosted, that he would not touch it, whereupon one of the excited faction exclaimed that any man who refused to sign the paper should be kicked out of Te Awamutu. Fuithei comments aie useless. — J am, &c. William Sloank. Te Awamutu, 20th Novembci, 188 i.
