TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD.

The councillors met in the Volunteer Hall on Wednesday. Pies>ent : Crs. Walton (chairman), Teivsdale and Bridgman. The minutes of last meeting were passed. The Chairman read a letter troin Cis. Mandeno and Wright tendering theii resignations. The letters were dated the I.lth inst., but the chairman drew the attion of the board to the fact that the envelopes bore the postal date of the 17th. The Ch.iiunan informed the board that lie had been in Auckland, where he h.id had had an interview with Mr Lake, M.H.K., wh<» said lie had heard of his appointment as chairman of the new board. Mr Lake asked him if he had received a letter fiom the chairman of the Raiigiaohia Highway Board, which related to ceitain reserves in Te Awaumtu, and which letter Mr Lake desired to he handed to the chairman of the town board. The chairman had not received the letter, but on his return he wrote to the chairman of the highway board requesting him to hand the letter over. The chairman of the highway boaid replied that when the R.M. declares him (the new chaiiman) legally elected a member of the new board, and the commissioners appoint him as their chairman, he would be must happy to comply with Mr Lake's request. The chairman drew the attention of the board to the fact that a second petition had been filed for an enquiry into the legality of the late election, and also to the fact that the public had become interested in the matter, and are signing a document as an expression of their opinion to the effect that they were satisfied with the result of the election, and that the enquiry was not desirable, was not asked for by the public, and was against public opinion. Resolved that the resignation of Crs. Mandeno and Wright lie on the table till next meeting. It was also resolved that as the first enquiry into the legality or otherwise of the election was to take place on Saturday, the 22nd inst., further business be postponed till next meeting, which was fixed for Wednesday, 2Gth inst., at 7.30 p.m. This concluded the business.— (Own Correspondent.)
