CRICKET.

CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL Y. HAUTAPU SCHOOL. A GORBKhPONDKNT supplies lib with the following uniine account of a cricket match between the schoolboys of Cambridge and Hautapu : — Canibiidge challenged the Hautapu boys, and followed their challenge, and played m a paddock kindly placed at the disposal of the boys for that purpose by Mr D.iley on Sn.turd.iy last. Tiio Cambridge boy& came with lots of confidence, lots of talk, lots of cricket, but unfortunately their utnpiie knesv nothing about the game, and was. always giving his men out. The result was*, as may be expected, the Canibiidge men got licked in one innings and 14 runs to spare. The Hautapu men knew scarcely anything about the game — knew more about turnips and mangel wur/els — but had a good umpire. All allowed that, bar the umpire, the Cambridge men knew most about the game, and had the best of it, because the other fellows did two scoutings for them. The result was : — Cambridge, first innings, 20 ; second, 48 ; total, GB. Hautapu, first innings, 82. In the return match Cambridge means to get an umpire that knows something about the game. The scores were as follows :—: — Hautapu. (i. Steel, b Clark 11 A. Selby, c Burt .. . 9 G. Ellis, c Buit . . 12 R. Morgan, at Clark ... .2 R. Main, st Burt . 1 A. Ellis,, c Clark . .. 8 J.
