NOTICE UNDER THE PUBLIC WORKS ACT, 1882. It is proposed to CLOSE certain ROADS between Sections 159 and 161, and Sections 171, 172, 173, 174 and 159, also between Sections 139 and 159, Parish of Horotiu, and to open in lieu thereof certain other roids. Plans of the proposed alterations will be on view at the officG of the Newcastle Road Board, Mr P. Corboy's residence, Whatawhata, for eight weeks from this date, and any objections to the proposed alteiations must be sent to the undersigned. P. CORBOY, Chairman Newcastle Road Board. SEALED TENDERS will be received at the Chief Post oflice, Auckland, until SATURDAY, the 22nd November, 1884, for the conveyance of mails between the undermentioned places for a peiiod of two years from the Ist January, 1885, to the 31st December, 1886. No. 27.— Hamilton, Whatawhata, Waitetuna, Okete and Raglan, twice weekly, by horse or coach. No. 28. — Tamahere railway • station, Tamahere and Hautapu, daily. No. 67.— Okoroiri and Lichfield, twice weekly, by horse or coach.

The attention of intending tenderers is directed to the following clause ot the terms and conditions of contract printed at the back of the ten-der-forms : — "The days and hours of arrivals and departures of mails will be stated in a time schedule attached to the bond, but other days and hours may from time to time be fixed by the Postmaster-General by notice in writing. For services performed by coach, no stage shall exceed twelve miles, except by special permission from the Post-master-General, who shall determine whether or not longer stages aie unavoidable." Contractors whose tenders may be accepted, must be piepared to carry out the services for which they tender according to the time-tables framed by the department. Contractors must, in accordance with the terms and conditions of mail contracts, provide a free bo\'-seat on any vehicle, and a fiee passage by any steamer or boat, .vhen lequiied, for an officer travelling on the business of the depart-
