ALEXANDRA.
The natives of Whatiwhatihoe are still in a state of suspense regarding Tawhiao's arrival home, but from a telegram received by Ratima To Marenni on Saturday last, he may be looked for to-day, arriving by coach from Te Awamutu. He will not proceed direct to Whatiwhatihoe, but pass over the Waipa bridge (if it will carry them) to the .Ngatitu settlement, Foxton, where Topia and Hori Ropiha are residing, and on Tuesday, accompanied by them, will go Whatiwhatihoe to receive their welcome, with the u>>ual ceremonies, according to Msiori etiquette. General regret is felt here for the sad fate of Mr R. Alexander, of To Awamutu, who was accidentally killed by a fall from his dray on Saturday last. The deceased was an old settler, and universally respected. The county council have taken no steps as yet, either to block up the main Whatiwhatihoe road or repair the dangerous spot I referred to in my last letter. Another gentleman, with his horse, attempted to find the bottom of the hole on Friday last, and luckily escaped without matonal injury. I expect to furnish your columns with a. full account of an inquest on some unfortunate if something is not done to it right speedily. The concert in aid of the school funds which will take place on Friday evening next, promises to be a great success, the .local talent will be strong in coming forward to assist in the affair. 1 should have mentioned that having h.e.aj-d firing at Whatiwhatihoe yesterday - afternoon, I proceeded thither at once thinking Tavvhiao had made an unexpected ariival.^ On my arrival I found a new< flag staff erected in front of Tawbiao's ; wharo with two colours flying, brie a., white' flag with a full length * portrait,' well, done^ of the "King, the^ under ohe*a,very;! long scarlet; streamer »with t the,bu,s^ of 'p.* jman^evidently" by a, -Maori /aj>tiw with 1 * J> .underiißatb.
