Thr annual meeting of tlio shaicholdeis of tliH factoiy takes place to cl.iy, when it is expected that tlie balance-sheet foi the year will attend much encoinagement and satisfaction to the sh.uelioldei*. At the piesent time the daily supply averages about 220 gallons, but in tho couiie of a few veeks will ha\e giadually increased to possibly 400 gallons. The supply averaged last season !»S0 gallons. The directors have taken ,i\eiywiso step in entering upon buttoi making Tln.s i-, a new feature in the wot king of the fa< tui v, and the example thus si>t will doubtlo^-, be taken advantage of by the othei W.ukato f.ictoiies aheady staited and about to --t.u I The buttei plant has onl^ entitled an idditional e\peii(lituieof about tIJO. Mi M,>,ul, Ihe nianagei, being a ]ii <ictic.il man, and possessing a knowledge of factoid inachineij r , lias saved the company the exti.i cost of mechanical laboui, having litted up tho buttoi plant himself. The shafts and some additional poi turns of the butter-making machinery have only lecently beeu oi'dciud, and when they auivc this depaitment of the indiT-tiy v. ill at once be commenced. It is intended to utilise about an eighth of the daily milk .supply for butter making. Two Auckland meichantshave otteied to take all the company's butter dining six mouths of the year at 'Jd a It), deliveied at Ngaroto station. This of itself is \eiy encoui aging, but the directors think they can do betlci, and will likely ship to the Austialian maiket. The manager, Mr Mead, recently ofieied to take the butter as his remuneration, and the directors thinking they "had a good thing on,' almost jumped at the offer, but when they went into figures on the matter they saw that the manager had a better thing on than they, «<> his offei is not likely to be iiecepted. Butter-making is likely to prove the best paying depaitment of the factory. There is a local market in Auckland, and factory-made butter being better and more uniform than the "home-spun article " it is sure to command a high pi ice in pfe market, and a large demand. No extra labour will be entailed, as the manager <can attend to both. Mr Mead has proved himself a highly competent and energetic manager, and the directors are highly pleased with his services.
