KIHIKIHI.
Mr Farrelt« chairman of tho town board, and Cr. Ellis went on a tour of inspection round the town a few days ago. The result is that two hundred notices to clear furze will bo issued. The Board are determined to put down the nuisance, and will ad »pt stringent measures to compel owners of property to clear the pest off the roads which their allotments abut. If one of our legislators would introduce a bill forbidding the planting of furze in the country, he would be a public benefactor. Many people lit them spread on their own property regardless of tho trouble that will probably be entailed on thoir neighbour*. It is said every man has a right to do as ho likes with his own, but when his own, in the shape of furze, spreads so much as to cause inconvenience to his neighbours and the public, the law should step in and compel him to kaep them down. The next step that should be taken is to try and enforce the clearing of furze and briars off tho sections as w.ell as the roads. Kihikihi is duller at present than I have known it to bo for years. Tho marked contrast between the bustle and life during tho sitting of the court, and the quietness of it now, make? the dullness still more apparent. Very few natives come in, as the majority are in Cambridge* attending the court. The road between here and Te Awamutu is very much better since the dry weather set in, but some surfaco men aro badly required ; one or two are not enough, as the road is beginning to set hard, and before this takes place, the ruts and holes should be filled up, or we shall have a very rough road during the summer. It was a mistake to meddle with the road at all last winter, but as it is done, the best should be made of it. It will, unless gravelled, and in some places reformed again, be a standing monument of the splendid (?) abilities of the \YaiP3 County Council, Mr Armstrong, " the newly-appointed engineer, is about to, take up his residence here in Kihikihi. It is to be hoped the character of the roads will improve under his management. — (Own Correspondent.)
