Maclean said he had heaid that £2,600 had been granted foi this load. The Mangawhero bridge on the Matamata-Oxfoid Koad was aNo impassable to traffic. — It was agieed to defer the matter till next meeting. CoML'KNhATiON roit AcoiDi'.NT. — Thomas Skellon wrote stating the facts of an accident sustained by him while in the discharge of his duties on the tramway. He was confined to the hospital for somo time, and had been put to cieat expense. He applied that his wages be allowed him for the time he was disabled. — -Matter itfened to the tramway manager for his leporl, the council being favourable to the application. Tis.umoN' Engtn'b on Waitoa Road. — Mr Y. Dibble, Mataniata, applied for permission to run his ti action engine on the Piako road between Te Arnha and the Piako btidge during the summer months.--It was agreed to refer tho application to the Waitoa Road Board. I{l*k> nation.— Mr Geoffrey Maclean's lesiguation as returning officer for the Pateteip Outlying District was accepted. — Mr Charles Tuck was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Maclean. A £3000 Subsidy.— The matter of the £2 for every £1 spent by local bodies on roads and tracks on goldhelds was brought forward. The council agreed to apply immediately for the sum of £3000, being amount claimed as balance, due under that system on account of expenditure on the Aroha tramway. Also, that Mr J. B, Whyte be requested to support the application when it is sent in. Cl'LVKKl'h AT ShaKI'KSBUUV. — Mr E. Y. Cox", Shaftesbury, applied that certain culverts be made on the main mad thiough tho Shaftesbury town.ship. — The council having ho funds at present, the matter was defeued for fuithei consideiation, VVouking ox the Sa n hath. -Moses Neil, who for some time had been engaged duving4)oises on the tramway, wrote complaining of having been discharged by Mr Adams, the manager, for having refused to desecrate the Sabbath by cleaning MiAdam's buggy harness on a Sunday. He asked to be reinstated in his position. — Matter referred to Tramway Committee. GkavelPit on Taotaoroa Road.— Cr. Brunskill drew attention to the damage which was being done to the main road by the existence of a gravel pit near Gorton. Through the surface-water draining into this pit, the road was being washed away, and it was quite likely that after a few days heavy rqiu the road would be damaged to a very great extent. —After some discussion it was agreed " That the road referred to, being within the jurisdiction of the Taotaoroa R6ad Board, the attention of that bpdy be called to the present condition of the" gravel pit referred to, and that the boaid" be requested to take immediate steps to prevent any, further drainage being carried ' into the pit.' ''Mr*Li*psey'£ Claim.— Mr' Jas.
