WELLINGTON, Wednesday.

Negotiations have been reopened with a view to the amalgamtion of the Jockey Club and Racing Club. Stops are being taken to" establish a second rowing club in Wellington. Divers who ha\ c examined the Lastingham states that they could see a lot of cases of goods with a qviautity of railway iron lying on the top of them, the iron evidently having rolled over when the ship turned on her side. The forcastle was found to be in a peifectly sound condition. They were unable to examine the after-part of the vessel on account of the rigging lumbering it, so that the divers could not move about. It is expected that the best part of the cargo will be recovered. The official trial of the torpedo boat intended for Auckland was made this afternoon. Captain Fairchild was in charge, several members of Parliament being on board. The engines made 630 resolutions per minute, which is computed to be equal to 17} knots per hour, the fan which blows the fire travelling from twehe to fourteen hundred revolutions per minute. Arrived : Ship Pleione, Captain Tennant, from London, 109 days. She experienced very heavy weather during the voyage, and on October 2nd experienced an exceptionally heavy gale and sea, and was in company with the ship Pareora, that vessel having lost her fore-topgallant mast.
