LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

TUESDAY. The Colonel Secretary announced that the Governor had been pleased to call Mr William Reeves, of Onriatchurch to tho Council. Several bills were advanced.

WEDNESDAY. On the Council resuming, Mr Win. Reeves of Chrisfcchurch, took his seat. Capr. Fraser asked that when vacances in Council are being filled up whether the (Tovernment would take into consideration the preponderance of the North Island members in the Council, and particularly members of Wellington. The Colonial Secretary replied. The question was of some importance, and he tnought, considering the position of the members generally in the Council, of the greatest possible importance, and ought to be attended to. (Laughter.) On the motion of Mr Chamberlain, it was resolved that in the opinion of the Council it is debit able that the colony should recognise by suitable means the heroism of tho->e who have distinguished themselves by saving the lives ot their fellow colonists. The second reading of the Ea.st and West Coast Railway Bill was postponed till to-morrow. The Codlin Moth Bill, Kowai Domain Board Bill, Thames Recreation Re^ei vp Sales Bill, Animals Protection Bill and the Sheep Bill were read a .second time. The Cruelty to Animals Bill w.vs read a third time and passed; the GisboiiK 1 Harbour Boaid Bill, and the Tauranga School Site Bill were reported with amendments. The Council rose at 4.5.
