CAMBRIDGE PARLIAMENTARY UNION.

The regular fortnightly meeting of the above institution was held at the Chuich of England .schoolroom on Monday evening last. The Speaker took the chair at 7.30 p.m. Petitions having been called on, Mr Edgar followed with a notice of motion foi leave to bi ing on a bill imposing a tax on bachelor^. Mr Hoiking gave notice of motion for leave to bring in a bill to regulate the labour maiket. The Rev. H. R. Dewsbury gave notice that he would ask next night fora letum showing expeiuhtuie during session up till now. The Premier asked for leave to submit a veibal repoit of the Standing Ordei\s Committee's deliberations. —Leave granted. The Premier then gave a resume of what had been done by tha Standing Orders Committee. He moved the adoption of the report. The Rev. Mr Dewsbury opposed. Archdeacon Willis moved that the House go into committee on the lepoit of the Standing Oideis Committee. The motion was put and negatived on the voices. The Premier moved that the Standing Orders be supplemented by a, fieah Standing Order, placing it in tiie power of the Speaker to decide what should apply to the pioceedings of the Union. Mr Gwynneth moved as an amendment that the words proposed be not added. The amendment was put and carried. The Rev. Mr Dew&bmy moved that the Standing Orders be adopted as far as the constitution of the House rendered them desirable. — Carried. The question whether the StandingOrdeis be now adopted, with tho addition .of the Rev Mr Dewsbury's supplementary provision, was put and cairied. The matter of the appointment of a Clerk of the House was then d^cu^ed in an animated manner, but was shelved for the consideration of the re-distiibution of seats, and the assigning of constituencies to the members. This latter question led to some lively passages of arms, but was not finally decided, being adjourned till next meeting as an order of the day. The hour being late, Mr Koesing asked leave to have hid motion referiincr to a cattle and agricultural show for the Waikato townships adjourned till next meeting as an order of the day. Leave granted. Mr Stewart made a similar application regarding his motion for leave to biing in a bill legalising cremation, which was granted. The Speaker then left the chair on the Premier's motion that the House go into Committee on the Native Lands Act Amendment, 1884. j Mr Dyer (Premier) in Committee moved that the pieamble of the bill stand over for consideration.-— Carried. The first and second clauses passed. On the Premier's motion that the third clause pa«s, Mr Alford said that he would strongly oppose this clause. Mr (iwynneth moved that the committee i report progress. — Carried. The Speaker put it to the House, on the Committee reporting progress, that this Committee do sit again next meeting.—Carried. The Premier moved the adjournment of the House, which then adjourned till Monday, November 3rd, at 7.30 p.m. • There was a moat satisfactory 'attendance of members and of the public, the ladies being as usual appreciative patronesses, and this notwithstanding the counter attraction ~ of an Opera Company. The proceedings were enlivened by some amusing cross firing. .

Mr S. T. Scddon, Hamilton, offers a* reward for the recovery oflost cattle, and Mr J. Webb,. Paterangi, inserts a similar announcement in reference to a number of dairy cows lost from Gubbins' farm, Oh.iupo, about six weeks ago. ' Mc*irs W. T. Hijnter and Co. will sell at the Cambridge Yards, on Thursday next, the 30th inst., 2 J -year old steers,' fat cattle and sheep, store cattle, dairy cows,' &c.
