THE RACE. A capital start was effected, Rapid at once going to the front, find he led past the Stand followed by Yately, Vernet, Battailous, Lavington, Blink Bonny, Colstonn, Hastings, Signor and Claptrap, then came Lord Wilton, Veigy and Bond dOr, just clear of Capri, Martini-Henry, Despot, Malua and Agent bringing up the rear. Opposite the .Stewards' Stand Signor fell. Yately joined Rapid at the tin u and up the hill, with Hclone, Vergy and Battailous at their heels, just clear of Glaptiap, MartiniHenry, Despot and Agent falling further to the rear. Along the back of the course Yately was going with great vigour and assumed the lead, Rapid resigning second place in favour of Helene and Battailous. Martini-Heniy had by this time fallen further in the rear. Passing the .sod wall, Rapid made a second effort and joined Yately and Helene, the pace being terrilic. At the turn Fryingpan and Colstoun made a resolute effort to get up, but failed, and Lord Wilton and Blink Bonny assumed forwaid positions. Turning into the straight, Yately was done with, and Blink Bonny ran through and took the lead. Rapid heie made another desperate effort to pet up, and letired at the distance post, and Lord Wilton, Hastings, and Vergy challenged Blink Bonny, who, however, held the lead, and came m an easy winnci by two lengths, Lord Wilton being next, a length in front of Vergy, Malua fouith, Caltiptrap, Hastings, Heleiie, Yately, Fiying-pan, Norfolk, Colstoum, Despot, Capn, and Martini- Henry next.
