[Received October 17, noon.] Syuvey, October 17. Arrived, this morning (I,lth) : Hauroto from Wellington. H.M S. Nelson, Diamond, and Espiegle leave heie to-moirow for New Guinea, where Commodore Erskine will formally declare the B'itish protectorate. The German warship Elizabeth loft Port Jackson yesterday, and it is believed she is also bound for New Guinea.
[Received October 17th, 1.30 p.m.] Melbourne, October 18. Arrived : This morning the Taiawera. The Tasmanian Government lias agreed to Mr iSei vice's proposed protest against tlio Anglo German Confederation regarding Pacific annexation. The New South Wales Government refused, and so also has South Australia, pending the recipt of fuither information as to the alleged convention.
Aublaidk, October 18 T. Low, locomotive superintendent, has been suspended in consequence of charges brought against him by superior officers. Mr Mattinson in the Legislative Assembly has given notioe of motion thereanent which reflects upon the action of the Commissioner of Works. Tho Ministry regard the motion as tantamount to a vote of want of confidence and tho House accoidingly adjourned until Tuesday, when the motion will be discussed.
