Road Wokks.— The engineer reported that the Monavalo biidge was in a dangerous state, th.it the water from the outfall di.uns was washing the gully out to the real bottom and that piles of ftom 3-"> to 40 feet would be needed. It was n?M>l»'ed to make application under the extraordinary clauses of the Roads and Bridges Construction Act. The engineer ateo reported that lepahs are needed near Have Jock's bridge on the WhatawhataNewcasfcle road, Tho tender of Bayliss and Lanca^tei for fencing the approach to the Mangapiko bridge, £2 Is per chain, was accepted. Rkitiixivg Oitickhs.— The following were the returning officers appointed for the soveial ridings at the forthcoming November elections :—Rangiaohia, Mr Walton ; Tuhikaramea and Mangapiko, My Maunder ; Hamilton, M.i John S. Kdgeeumbo, Newcastle, Mr W. Jones ; Pukokuia, Mr Hugh Fitzgerald. Camhkidgk Wem 1 . — It was resolved to postpone action in the Cambiidge West drainage and the Cambridge West cemeteiy until after the newcouncil was elected. Ng.ykuawahia Punt. — An application from the Ngaruawahia Town Board for £13, the council's share of the cost of repairing the and was referred, back for a fuller bill of particulars, Thk Kihikihi Road -vTt was resolved to proceed with the reforming of the Kihi-kihi-Te Awamutu road in the hollows and flats where needed. County Engineering.— The voting for the appointment of engineer w«is then proceeded with. Seventeen tenders were received, the remuneration asked being understood to inchidfi traveling expenses with the reservation by applicants of the right practising their profession when not engaged in the business of the council. The tenders of Messrs Calderwood and Pavitt, being based on a percentage instead of a salary, were ruled out of order as informal. Of the following fifteen Mr Armstrong's application was accepted :— G.Bepre, £45Q; J. Macarthy, £500; C. Davy, £:JQQ j Napper, £300 ; Hosking, £200; B. X^irburn, £350 ; T, G, Saudes, £2JO ; Wilson, £300 ; Gwynneth, £300 ; Krippner, £300 ; Allan Whitehorne,, £200 ; H. Little, £110 ; G. Harden, £200 ; R. Morgan, £218 ; Alexander Armstrong (accepted), £250. Riding Expendituue. — The following^ shows^ the expenditure in the yarjous ridings during the past fifteen month's (approximate) :— Tuh.ikaramea, £70 1p (id ; Mangapikfl, £t^6 l3,s ip ; Hamilton, £301 19 a 9d ; Newcastle, $4Q()*3s 5d ; Rangiaohia, £660 10s lOd ; Pukekura, £990 10?, This includes moneys borrowed under tho Roads .and Bridges Construction Act, as well as ordinary county revenue.
