HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

TUESDAY. Thr District Railwnys Leasing and Purchasing Bill was repotted, and on the motion for the third reading, Meisri Thomson and Rollcston protested against tlie hill, but the motion was canied by 41 to 21. The Public Work's Amendment Bill and the Land Act Amendment (No. 2) Bill, to enable small farmers to lease runs on adjoining lull country, Avero read a second time. On the motion for going into committee on the Government Insurance Association Bill, a somewhat long debate ensued, but the motion was cat ried. The Westport and Greymouth Harbour Bills were considered in committee.

WEDNESDAY. The House met at 2.30. Sir G. Grey pave notice that he would introduce a bill to amand the Printing and Newspaper Registration Act. Replying to questions, it was stated that Murray's railway automatic block system was not consideted of importance to this colony ; the case of Fanny Knight, of New Plymouth, who alleges she was cruelly assaulted, would bo enquned into ; a sum of £250 would be placed on the supplementary estimates for Volunteer prize shooting meetings, but Govern tnent would not ai range that one-half the annual vote be allocated to Volunteers in each Island. The Destitute Persons Act, 1877, Amendment Bill, was introduced and read a first time. On the motion for going into Committee on the East and West Coist (Middle Island) and Nelbon Railway Bill. Mr Rolleston objected to the bill, repeating many of the arguments already made use of against the measure. He chaiged Sii J. Vogel with a disposition to resume the spii it of public works gambling similar to that of the policy of 1870, and from which they had lately been to a great extent relieved. The debate was intenupted by the n.30 adjournment.
