POLITICAL NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH.— SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.]

New Government Printing Office. Welling ton, Monday. It is reported that the Public Winks estimates will contain a vote of £30,000 tor the erection of a new Government Punting Office m Wellington. The \ote is supposed to be the outcome of a deputation th.it waited on the Government l.itely repiesenting the da-ngpi that thieatencd the lives and health of the Luge numbers of people employed in the piesent ci .imped and badly ventilated building, which has been condemned years ago a-> altogether unsuitable. It is understood a site for th» new printing office has been obtained on the reclaimed land opposite the Tieabiiry buildings the site being one of the Wellington Harbour Board Endowments.

The Loan Bill. A rumour has been afloat during the last few days that the Government will not append any schedule to the new Loan Bill. Should this be the case, the Opposition will resist it to the uttermost, as it is well known that if the bill is not scheduled Ministem will bo able to spend the money in tiny way they may think ht. Thi' strongest picssine will be brought to bo.ir so as to prevent the bill going through without having the specified Schedule's attached to it.

The Trunk Railway. A meeting of Aueklind and Taianaki membem was held this morning to consider the recommendation of the committee as to the cential route. The following menibeis were piesent :— Sir (Jo. Grcv, Major Atkinson, C.ipt. Monus, Colonel "Kinser, Colonel Tumble, i\lessi-> Peacocke, Moss-, Cadm.ui, D.ug.iville, VVhyte, Samuel, Jlobbs, UuckUnd, Thompson, Lake and Moat. After consideiable discussion, m which it was generally allowed that it was impossible for inemheis to have mastered the voluminous evidence in so short a time, it was icsohed th.it the question of the North Kland Tiunk Railway committee's repoit should be debated, and an adjoinnment until Fnday isked foi. Tins cmise was objected to by Mr W. Y. Bucklaud and Colonel Fi'.isor on the giouud that it might tend to having the question of the line hung up .iltogethet this session, but the mnjoiity of the meeting weie against them, and nothing further was done m the niattet. Mr Peacock was chairman of the meeting.

The Policy Bills. There is a veiy uneasy feeling in the House at piesont in legaid to several of the policy bills of tho Government. Ofcnuisc, theie is not the slightest intention on the part of tho Opposition to displace Ministun this .session. Still, judging by the temper of tho House, if they poisist in forcing the objectionable measures through, a storm ni.iy bin si on them at any moment. I have it on good authority that tho (xo\ eminent suppoitois would not hesitate to tlnow out the East and West Coast (Middle Island) Railway liill were it not hn the fact that Sir Julius Vogel has made it a Ministerial question. Several of the Go\ eminent paity will vote for the second leading only on condition of its being materially alteied in committee.

McKonzie, and seveinl other Otago members waited on tho Minister of Public Work*. this morning to urge upon the Government the advisability of completing the o uth woiks on the Otago Central lino with <is much convenient speed a*- possible. Mr Ilichaidson said the Go- \ eminent fully lecognised the importance of the wink and promised the deputation that cveiyefFoit consistent with the- position of the public funds would be made towaidb advancing it.
