THURSDAY. Several bills were advanced a stage. It was lesolved to meet on Monday next for Government business. On the application of Mr J. B. Whyte the Town Districts Act, 1881, Amendment Bill, was dischaiged from the Order Paper. The Affirmation in Lieu of Oatb^-J^jll, was read a third time and pasbed^y* ~ The debate on the Native Lajhd Laws Amendment Bill was adjourned for a week. i The House then went into committee on the Gold Duties Abolition Bill, 'which was reported. - \

FRIDAY. The House met at 2.30. Mr Fergus gave, notice that he would ask the Government if it intended completing the sanatorium at Ohinemutu. On the motion oi Sir J. Vogel, it was agieed " That inasmuch as the Ualifornian service and the direct steamers afford the quickest meau.s of communication to and fiom Great Britain and New Zealand, the mail matter brought or sent by way of Brindi&i, entails a considerable loss, and this House is of opinion the rates on letters to and f i oin Great Britain by way of Brindisi should be raised to Is the half ounce, and other mail matter in proportion, and that if theie is difficulty in levying the additional amount in Great Britian the same should be collected from senders here.
