The House lesumed afc 7.30. Mr J),irg.iville moved the second reading of the Bank Note Secmity Bill, which piovides that bank nofcc» sh.ill be a first charge upon assets within the colony of such bank, and the holder of the note be paid out of such assets the full amount in prefeience to all other claims of a different nature against such. After some discussion the motion for the second reading was put and cairifd on the voices. Sir George Grey mo\ed the second reading of the Justices of the Peace Act, 18^2, Amendment Bill, which piovir'es that in inHictable cases the administration of the law be befoie two justices instead of one. The second reading was cained. Mr Hobbs moved the .second reading of the Gaming and Lotteries: Act 1881 Amendment (No. 2) Bill. After a shoit discussion the second reading was cariied. Mr Connolly moved the second reading of the Alienation of Land Bill. Sit Julius Vogel thought it inexpedient to proceed with so Luge a measure this session, and therefore would vote against the second reading. It was not, however, to be taken that he opposed the principle of the bill. Mi Hobbs supported the bill, and Mr Shepherd suggested the postponement of the debate for a week. Mr Conn>)lly would not agree to the adjournment, as it simply meant killing the bill. The motion for the second reading was carried, and the bill was ordered to be committed this day week.
