THE DISPUTED ELECTION AT TE AROHA. [BY TELEGRAPH.-OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Mr Cooper Unseated. Tk Auoha, Wednesday. The petition against tho leturn of Mr Cooper to the county council was lieaid here yesterday before Mr Konnck, K.M. The election was declared null on the grounds that it was illegal, because tho returning officer had not been appointed specially for the tiding as reqimed by law ; secondly, because the election had not taken place within tuenty-ti\o clear day of the reMgnuti m of the Conner member; and thirdly, because the returning officer acted wiongly in not allowing poisons to \ote on mineis' rights though not on tlie roll. This ruling is perhaps strictly aocoidinjj to law, but it has given much dls^atl^faction. The deci-ion of the MasMiato yesterday invalidate^ the whole of the pioceeduig--, of the council since its appointment.
