A telegram which has been received from Mr '""aidwell, announcing that he has proved the lowest mammals found iv Australia to be viviparous, is pronounced to be the most important scientific discovery that has been submitted t;o the scientific world, and has been received at the British Association's meeting at Montreal with enthusiasm. Professor Moseley thinks that his discovery indicates the descent of man from reptiles. The spiead of cholera in Naples is increasing rapidly, and aeveuty deaths from the disease were reported yesterday. The inhabitants of Italy are quite panic stricken. It is freely rumoured that Lord Carlingford, owing to ill health, is about to resign his position in the Ministry as Lord President of the Council and Lord of the Privy Seal, and that he will be replaced by the Earl of Rosebery.
